question regarding firewire

I need to buy a IEEE 1394 firewire to connect my Mindstor to my Sony VAIO laptop. I know need a 4pin/4pin cable, but the thing I don't understand is: are there 2 type of cables? I see that buy.com sells a bunch of them, price ranges from $7 and up. Some of them mention S400 complaint, and my Sony VAIO has an imprint S400 next to the firwire port. I don't want to buy a firewire cable and realize that I may have a need for the S400 type of firewire.
