I want to install win2k on an unpartitioned hard drive. I would like to install using ntfs. When I try to install it, however, it says that ther is no room for a swap file. I have the computer booted to a command prompt with cd-rom support. the error I get is that windows cannot create a swap file for the installation. Is there a way I can install without partitioning my hard drive first (let windows install take care of it)? Also if i do have to partition, is there a way to install without formatting the hard drive? Thirdly, can I format to ntfs before the install, or is converting to ntfs from fat the only way? I have been able to format to fat32 and install using unattend but was just wondering if I could cut any corners. Thanks!

It should work fine from the CD install. You could create a FAT32 partition and then format it to NTFS during the install if the CD setup is being mung.

And yes the install offers to convert, or format the drive to NTFS or keep it as it is

Have you tried just booting the install from the CD instead of using a bootdisk?

Booting from CD is faster for one thing, and it also allows you to partition your harddisk and select the sizes and format.
