I am considering an upgrade to WinXP from Win98 SE. I have several Win 98 machines networked at home. If I change my gaming rig to Win XP will the others still be able to netwwork with the XP machine? I seem to think there is something different with the file formats.
Thanks.

If you use NTFS on the XP machine you may have a problem seeing that machine from the 98 boxes. Use FAT32 and there should be no problem.

Not true at all. File system has nothing to do with it. The networking service lets you access the data regardless of the file system.

You know something, your right. Windows 98 can't read an NTFS partition on it's own local hard drive. This doesn?t apply to networked disk access.

I probably shouldn't be responding to questions this late. I think I'll have another beer.
