Trying to prove a co-worker wrong.. that viewsonic uses sony's trinitron's stuff.

so i need solid proof.

1. who would make trinitron tubes within Viewsonic monitors.. if you want specific A75F model.
2. who are the main ppl that make tubes, i have sony, mitsubishi, and NEC that make there own stuff..

Well this may be kinda stupid, so yea.. dont flame me :D

"The nice Trinitron tubes are all made by Sony, but often resold to other manufacturers who then build the casing around the tube and sell the monitor for less than the Sony model costs. So, you can get essentially the same monitor for a lot less. You can get monitors like these from manufacturers such as KDS and Princeton Graphics."

I could be wrong but I believe the only two makers of aperture grille monitors are sony and mitsubishi.

Have ViewSonic P220f and Dell P1110. Both use Sony Trinitron F tubes.

Doesn't Sony keep the better batches to themselves?

Sony sold the rights to use the technology to mitsubishi, but the tube Diamond-tron is built by mitsubishi, not sony.
That is why sony tubes are different from mitsubishi. I have tried both and in my opinoin the sony trinitrons is a little better overall.

Umm thats not true. At least not anymore.

Sony no longer has exclusivity over the Trinitron technology they lost the patent over a year ago (maybe two?). Since then pretty much anybody with the means can produce Trinitrons, however they cannot call it that due to copyrights and trademarks. Also there are other flat monitor technologies out there.

If it's FD Trinitron tube, they'll state it to make it a selling point.
For example:

CTX is proud to announce its newest Professional PRF Pure-Flat CRT monitors, incorporating the superior quality of Sony's FD Trinitron® CRT. With virtually no curvature around the display edges, the PRF Pure Flat monitors create the clearest, sharpest, most vivid images possible. The Series also features TCO '99 to meet the industry's strictest standards for low radiation, safety, ergonomics, recycling, and power management. CTX International is among less than six suppliers worldwide to offer this latest display technology from Sony Corporation.

Mitsubishi's Diamondtron also has 2 lines. This is the characteristic of Aperture Grille tube.
Only Sony makes Trinitron, Mitsubishi makes Diamontron.
KDS, MAG, etc used to use (FD) Trinitron, now changed to use lower cost Trio Dot Pitch tube or flat invar shadow mask tube.

Viewsonic P75f+ spec:
25mm aperture grille [at center]

It must be using Diamondtron NF, like Samsung 700NF.

Sony G220S spec:
0.24mm (min) Aperture grille pitch ¡V Sets new standard in image clarity and precision.

For 17" monitor, 0.25 AG pitch tube is definitely Diamontron NF, only 0.24 AG pitch tube is FD Trinitron.
Viewsonic's is no way FD Trinitron, and Viewsonic has never used Trinitron in history.

I don?t know of anyone other than Sony that uses the ?Trinitron? brand aperture grill CRT?s anymore. ViewSonic while not really a manufacture uses Mitsubishi Natural flat CRT?s in their aperture grill products. CTX used to before Proview bought them. KDS stopped when Sampo started manufacturing for them.

My KDS AV-195TF 19" monitor has a Sony FD Trinitron and has performed superbly for the past year and a half. However, from what I understand, all of the KDS monitors in this series are obsolete. Don't know what they replaced them with.
