Just ordered a pizza, to find that I only have a dollar bill to tip...

I did manage to scrounge up a second dollar, but its in dimes and nickels...

I'm paying with a check, so what would you do?

Only tip the dollar bill, or give both including the change.

I've always been under the impression that writing the check for more money doesn't help the delivery guy.

Now that I think about it. I guess I'll just write the check for more.

Haha for a second I thought you ran to your computer when the delivery guy came to post about your problem and then just now you're going to run back to pay him. :p

The dominos dude told me to just write the check for a larger amount. I assume they have to cover their "tab" and the rest is theirs to keep.

when I was delivering, I would seperate my tips from my bank(money for the store). so if a check had the tip included, i just took out the extra.

Correct. Most franchise places have a computer that keeps track of how much you owe at the end of the night, everything thats left over is yours, no matter if it is paid by cash, check, or credit card.

Is $2 too little? I just did this yesterday. Pizza was there in 1 hour after they said 45 min so I only tipped $2. Usually would tip $3 + change. What's the rule? I know 15%, but with delivery should it be a little more or what? Is the driver gonna get pissed cause he only got $2?

$2 bucks is enough for a pizza delivery kid. Not like the job is even remotely difficult or performance based.

Hey don't blame the delivery guy. They might be swamped and he's running around just trying to get this crap out. $2 may not be enough, the job IS performance based. Pay a little more or get off your lazy ass.

He won't be pissed, but you might get a little "special sauce" on your next pizza!

Wouldn't you say it depends somewhat on the total cost of your order?

If I order a $7.99 pizza and give $2 plus change, I think that's an adequate tip.
If I order $30 in pizza, $2 isn't much.

Country boys get drunk and go cow tipping, college boys get drunk and go pizza delivery boy tipping?

I would rather pick up the pizza myself than tip $2+ on a pizza that will probably be less than $20. I was even a pizza delivery guy at one time, and I either got stiffed or $1 was the norm. You don't become a delivery boy to make lots of money on tips, you do it to get paid to drive around delivering pizzas, and get free meals.

Unless the delivery person is a hot chick, they'll be lucky to get more than $2 from me.

In my neighborhood, the pizza guys are taking their lives in their hands every time they get out of the car. Most of the shops won't even deliver to my street. I tip the guy at least 3 bucks, and more when I have it. Most of the a-holes around here just take the food, wait for every last penny of change, and then slam the door in their faces.
It might not seem like they are doing much for the money, but they are using their own vehicle. Gas, oil changes, tune ups, tires, wipers, batteries, etc. and insurance costs alone pretty much wipes out the piddly minimum wage paycheck these guys earn. And then they have to save a big chunk for when the car breaks down (and it WILL break down). And then driving a car like that (stop and go) 8-12 hours a day for a couple years will destroy any vehicle the poor slob can afford in the first place, so factor in the cost of a new car every couple years. I really really can't understand how these guys make any money at all. I never could :D
With that said, if I'm too lazy to get my fat ass off the couch and cook something, I'll gladly pay for the priviledge to have it delivered.

That depends where you are, I guess. I made almost $40,000 in the past 12 months, and I didn't even work full time.
