The "penryn" chip you refer to is the server based line.

Your looking for the Yorkfield (desktop) like asdftt123 mentions.

And yes it will be the QX6950.

3.33Ghz
45nm
1333 fsb
12MB L2 Cache

Probably will not see this under $999 for quite some time.

I actually think Penryn refers to the Mobile 45nm Dual-core CPU to replace Merom. Harpertown is the Xeon workstation model. The desktop Penryn will be available in Dual-core (Wolfdale) and Quad-core (Yorkfield) versions.

i mis-read the article.

Too many names to keep track of!!
Penryn also refers to the family of products (which includes Yorkfield) so you are not totally incorrect by using the "Penryn" verbage.

Penryn refers the the 45nm family.

But no. No new sockets will be introduced until Nehalem.
Desktop Penryns (Yorkfield Quads and Wolfdale Duos) will continue to be Skt775
Servers will continue to use Skt771
And mobile processors will be Socket P.

it depends on what type of mobo you have. penryn will still be skt 775 for the desktop, but there are a lot of skt 775 mobos that won't support it. Right now the only confirmed boards in production that support it are nvidia 650/680 and p35. The g33 should support it but it's an integrated grahpics board; frankly, if you only need integrated graphics then I have a barton xp 2500+ I can sell you cheap 🙂 It is rumored that some 965 mobos will work but details are sketchy.
