Bought this: CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

Reading about the ram I bought and it said "
Corsair's XMS (Xtreme Memory Speed) memory has long been popular among enthusiasts. Corsair has many such kits, and all are regarded as some of the best available in their categories. With 2GB (2 x 1 GB) of memory in dual channel configuration running at 800MHZ speed, this CORSAIR XMS 2GB DDR2 SDRAM System Memory, offers targeted low latencies of 5-5-5-18 at JEDEC standard speeds and have been certified as ?SLI Ready?, giving you some screaming data transfer rates and exquisite renderings. "

In the specs it says Timing 4-4-4-12

For stability reasons, can I not use the 4-4-4-12 timing and set it to 5-5-5-18?

yea.. i almost made the same mistake my friend... then i did some research and i had purchased it and exchanged it for the mushkin xp2-8500 using micron D9GMH chips... they're pretty badass but requires a lot of volts

I've got a pair of the PC2-6400C4D XMS2 Dominators @ 500 5-4-4-9. I think they're Revision 2.1 so they've got the ProMOS chips. They're not too bad.
They also can do 450 4-4-4-4 and 400 4-4-3-4. All 2T. The sticks can only do 1T @ 667 4-4-4-4.

Hmmm thats not bad at all PCTC2, i am surprised that you were able to get DDR2-1000 out of them.. I had read that they usually top out at DDR2-900...

They did. It took a long time and a lot of tweaking to get them mostly stable at DDR2-1000 @ 2.2v. I usually keep them @ DDR2-900 @ 2.15v. I can get them to do a suicide run @ DDR2-1066 @ 2.35v 5-5-5-12 timings.
