Hi! I was thinking of getting an Abit KT7 raid.

My questions are:

What is Raid Mode 0 (striping) anyway? How does it differ from ATA66/100?

And can someone explain this whole Northbridge/ Southbridge thing to me?

Raid 0 is basically setting 2 , 4 or more hard drives of the same specifications to make them work as one.
Copying a 1000mb file means that each one will take 500mb, taking only half of the time to copy this large file. In the case of 4 hard drives, the 1000mb file will be divided between the 4 hard drives, doing 250mb each, of course it would take only 1/4 of the time. For instance, if it takes 4 minutes to copy a 1000mb file with one IBM 75GXP, with 4 IBMs it would take only a minute to copy that big 1000mb file. Isn't it great?

This technology is still baby, hopefully one day gets to adulthood.

Normally a motherboard's chipset functionality is split across two chips....one is called the North Bridge and the other is called the South Bridge. Normally, the Northbridge controls main functions such as the CPU bus protocol, memory bus and interface (ie SDRAM controller), and the AGP bus. The Southbridge controls the PCI bus, hard drive bus and interface (ATAxx), and ISA bus (if it exists).
