what should i do to decrease the probability that my HK3490 will break when i move?

anyway, i am kind of mad because i found out that HK has replaced the 3490 with an inferior product that retails for the about 5/3 what i bought my 3490 for... i would need to spend more than $1k if i wanted a decent replacement since i want maximum stereo power, the bandwidth range that sounds so good (it goes very high while doesnt go too low... mids and highs are always important while lows are not so important), and an AKM DAC that does 24/192.

back in original box or in a large enough box tightly packed with peanuts or bubble wrap.

I wouldn't do the peanuts, as they tend to compress and allow the item to shift somewhat. If you don't have the original box, go with the bubble wrap, and multiple layers to take up the entire space to the edge of the box.

I've shipped many a receiver, including the older units with glass panels on the front, and never had a problem.

thanks guys; i will make sure it is packed tightly into a box by itself with bubble wrap. i hope it will work just as well for the rest of my life (which i want to end every day) as it does now.

You must be flying very far, I was thinking you could just take it yourself in a car with you! I'll tell you what, I sure as hell won't be packing my projector up for shipment if I ever move, it's going to be carried under my arm!

OP, there was a government program established under President Obama, a subsidiary of the Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, called the Household Good's Program that can help you if you're having trouble. Give them a call and they'll send a field agent out to assist with packing & inventorying things like AVRs, TVs, laptops, jewelry and firearms.
