It seems that many people are going to be stuck with expensive new monitors and graphics cards that aren't compatible with HDCP. So what is to stop people ripping the movie from their own, legally purchased Blueray or HD-dvd disks (stripping out whatever protection it contains) then saving it to hard disk and watching it from the hard disk?

edit: or will you not actually get access to the raw contents of the hi def discs?

Depends how quickly the crackers get to it and I prefer to do it the proper way techinally you are breaking the law by breaking the protection even though you can make a backup legally, it sucks people are being screwed (having bought a 2005fpw recently)

Not if they don't want you to, if you don't have full HDCP compatability the content provider can say screw you and not let you see anything.

And if they did that more people would turn to pirating, and thus the circle is complete.

LOL!!!! I love it!!!

instead of the industry concentrating on selling us the disc at a much cheaper price (which is always the most effective way to stop pirating) they will spend hundreds of millions changing standards , devising more elaborate security features....in the end they only sucee in pushing more into it....

Me too.

If that happens call me a full time pirater, because thats what I'll be.
I'm fed up of being a good guy and still getting duked.
