Example:
You just finished building a new computer. You have all the Firewall/Virus protection software loaded but it needs to be updated.

Is it safe to log onto the internet with say "Norton 2005" freshly loaded and update it? Will you it safe to do this or is it wise to think ahead & manually download the update to a cd/dvd & use that ?

I just don't want to be attacked while updating **LOL**

I think the chances of that happening are slim to none. I paid $50 for Norton 2004 and I absolutely hated it. I discovered there are alot of great free Antivirus and Firewall software that you can d/l for free like Antivir and Kerio.

If you're well educated in this area, please explain this one to me. Given the OP situation, what are the chances of acquiring a worm from connecting to the internet and not opening a browser? The most common ways to get worms that I know of is questionable websites, ICQ, E-mails, and P2P. A good explanation or link would be appreciated.
