People can kick and holler all they want to. It's been implemented in the DP standard and it will come. Even if it's optional if people want to buy it, manufacturers will implement it. AMD has said they are involved with manufacturers to get it into products. Contrary to what some around here would like to believe, AMD actually has quite a bit of pull in the industry. They made the standard happen and they'll make the hardware happen as well.

AMD and VESA say it requires a change, not a whole redesign as you keep implying. Like stated, if it required a change to the actual hardware, it would require a version change per VESA's requirements (Which I cannot post as you have to be a member to read them). What it requires is a firmware change to the hardware. The V_Blank call already exist, ASync is an expansion of that functionality. Now since displays do not typically have firmware that is upgradable (They are almost always write once roms) it will require displays that have the functionality enabled on them.

This is quite interesting, I didn't know VESA required a version number change for changes in hardware requirement.

However if the only thing changing is the firmware, one would think that manufacturers could implement it in a lot less than 6-12 months. However this rather long timeframe, might be caused by the manufacturers wanting to line up the launch of new adaptive-sync models with the holidays.

If this is in fact the case it would also indicate that the manufacturers are gearing up for the launch of more than just a few niche models here and there, although that is of course getting very speculative.

Don't see any in there. How do you know so much about what it takes to implement at the same time you are complaining there isn't any technical info available? o_O

Because AMD said it would require new hardware, and because it also said it would take at least 6-12 months.

Don't believe me if you don't want to. I'm just some random forum guy you've taken a dislike to. But disbelieving what AMD says, about tech AMD is developing and pushing? That you'll have to justify.

Then why hasn't AMD, or any of the manufacturers, actually said anything specific about a partnership?

But again. I've been over all of this already. If all you three are going to do is just repeat the same debunked arguments again, there's no point in not locking this thread too. You asked for evidence, I presented it. You didn't like what the evidence showed, so you pretended it didn't happen, and hope to make me look bad by continuing to challenge me, hoping I get frustrated and leave or do something foolish.

Not going to happen.

The fact that there are people here who want proprietary tech over a standard shows exactly why prices are out of control...

It may be a trivial change to the spec (I would not characterize it that way) but it's most definitely not a trivial change to the hardware.
what did it take to run it on a cheap retail stock laptop ??? not a $200.00 custom board that we know of.
-only a oem tweak if I remember correctly.

There's no need for a partnership. This is not proprietary tech that they need to have any kind of legal working agreement on. No money will change hands.

I haven't asked you to prove anything.

The CES demo did not show it running on a cheap retail stock laptop, it showed a cheap retail stock laptop running at a static refresh rate. Please, read the other thread, this has all been discussed before.

You've made the jump from needs new hardware to its a major hardware change. Here's how you tell its a pretty minor change;

In that 6 - 12 months you have to
1. Have your engineers understand the standard
2. Chip companies have to produce a chip with new standard
3. Chip has to validated
4. Monitor makers have to produce and validate test units
5. Mass production has to occur of both of the above
6 the channel has to fill with product
7. Marketing plans need to be developed - such as the sticker

None of the above is particularly major like you make it out to be. It's just time consuming. If it was a major change you would be seeing years before it came out. The supply chain alone is six months long.

He will not listen to anything we say, it's not worth it.

Just ignore him, maybe he will stop and this thread will not be locked.
