question on buying a domain name

i know many years ago when you got a domain it costs like 200 bucks to buy the name itself,now with like yahoo and others offering these domain plans for cheap prices,is there no longer the 200 dollar charge?

AFAIK domains have NEVER cost in the $200 range.

Way back in the day they were $70 for 2 years through InterNIC/Netsol, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

If you want to buy or auction a domain someone currently owns then yes it can cost $50 - $10,000 or more.

Just register a domain with NameCheap.com or GoDaddy.com for under $9/yr.
