Question on AMD Thunderbird-n00b please help

AMD Thunderbird K7 1.33GHz

with this cpu...could i overlock? and is it faster than a AMD Duron 950 mhz, is it faster than an athlon? please lmk-im a n00b to the cpu and would like some help before i build my new computer.

Yes you can overclock provided you have the motherboard to do it and decent cooling.
Yes, it's faster than a Durabong 950...by 50% clock speed and double the on-die cache so your performance will increase greatly
No, it's not faster than an Athlon because it IS an Athlon

You should get nice boost in speed with this chip, but keep in mind that they run hot so if you want to push it even higher than stock, you are going to have to have(probably) an aftermarket cooler and OK airflow in your case. AX-7, PAL8045, MC462, even the SK-6 will get the job done. Many others to name.

would i be better just getting an athlon? rather than this chip..maybe a athlon 1600 xp or whatever?

Xp1600+ AGOIA-Y stepping is the best choice. Runs cooler, stock speed is 1400MHz, and it can overclock to 1700-1800MHz. Try pricewatch for that specific stepping, should be able to find one shipped for under $60.
