Hi guys. Just picked up a retail PATA Seagate 160 8mb cache. Right now I'm using a Western Digital 120gig which is in 2 partitions. Whats the best way for me to get all the data onto the new hard drive and partition it? I have a disc that comes with the retail box too. I'm confused let me know thanks.

Edit: Want to use it as a primary drive and take out the one inside.

Can you explain if you want it as a master or slave?

If you just are planning to add it as storage, then just add it, & use the utility it comes with for partioning it if you like.
Or you can just add it & use the Windows manager to partition/format the drive.

If the hard drive didn't come w/ any utilities, then you can download Seagate's Disc Wizard which lets you copy over all the data from your old drive to your new one and set it as the boot drive.

The hard drives come with software for just this purpose. If not, you can download one from the web site of the manufacturer. Copying data files from your data partition is not a big deal. Replicating your operating system partition is tricky. You cannot just copy it and expect it to boot.

An alternative to using a utility from the drive manufacturer is to use a utility like Drive Image from PowerQuest or Ghost from Symantec.

WARNING:
Before you do anything, back up your data. You may be sorry later if you don't!
