Well, unfortunately the "worse case scenario" has played out.
All may not be lost though. Yes, you "smoked" an old HD. However, if that is all you lose, then consider this a good lesson with minimal cost. Stop right here and make a few calls to find out what local shops would charge to test the unit out for you. Get more than one estimate. The only other thing would be to get someone (friend/friend of a friend) with a multimeter and with the knowledge of what value should be on what line, to check it out. Here's the quandry though; if you have to have a shop check it out then you need to weigh the cost of doing so with the cost of replacing this PS. An Enermax can be expensive, depending upon the model and rating; so is a shop charge for testing though. If there is any doubt, have the shop give you a guarantee in writing (if they will) as to the safety of the PS. You may find many shops are not equipped or qualified to do this though.
The only other idea (in case you have some more disposable hardware), is to start changing the wires around and testing them again. Not necessarily a good idea but an idea nonetheless. Perhaps someone here can give you some hints. Perhaps you already have an idea what went wrong. The ball is in your court. Hey, maybe a shop will give you some "trade in credit" on the PS towards a new one if you tell them what you tried. After all, you have it narrowed down for them, right?!?! If all else fails, I say "drop back ten" and (usually punt, but here.........) have a beer. :beer:
