If a seaplane is taking off from a river and the river is flowing backwards at the same rate as the seaplane is flowing forward, will the airplane take off?

No. Air movement over the wings causes lift, so if the plane cannot get the speed to create such lift, it will not lift....

It depends on whether or not there's a waterfall on that particular river.

On every other Tuesday, during the Lurid Full Moonset (look it up in Farmer's Almanac) the plane will take off, but ONLY backwards! It's a wingliftlet article function. A classic brain-buster, for sure.

do your own damn homework, you lazy slug.

It also depends if Maverick is piloting the plane or not.

No motion relative to the air, no lift = sit and waste gas.

Maybe, because there is a lot more drag from the water on a seaplane than you get with wheels on a runway.

Yes, anyone who is not a tard would turn the plane in such a direction that the river would help the plane take off.

Yes, anyone who is not a tard would turn the plane in such a direction that the river would help the plane take off.

but the river is flowing backwards at the same rate that the seaplane is flowing forward.

Turn the plane around, tard.

Did you miss the part about turning the plane?

Turn the plane around, tard.

And the river will still be flowing backwards at the same rate that the seaplane is flowing forward.

Apply throttle to full. Problem solved.

And no, this is not the same as the conveyor belt problem as the seaplane is directly connected.

But the best solution is to BAN you ;)

Winter solstice is only the 21st or 22nd.

So your answer is that the plane does not fly?
