I am in the need of a new video card but my system is a couple years old and can't utilize the best cards until I upgrade prob next year and i will get a top line video card to match. What is the best value I still want good preformance but do not need great yet. I was going to buy a 9800 pro 256 but think it is overkill for my current config Athalon 1500 xp with a Asus A7V266 with a gig of ram. Main game right now will be Black hawk down and America's Army will be an option. Can I get by with 128 until I do the full upgrade and what are you recomendations.
Thanks in advance.

get a 128mb 9600pro under 140$, be sure to not get the EZ or Lite edition by powercolor and gecube respectively.
above that, below 180$ get a 5900XT.
And 200$ or so get the 128mb 9800pro.

Used/refurbished cards will help reduce the cost of your temp upgrade.

Also look into the 9500pro ~100-110 in the FS/FT forum. Its a powerful card which
you can't find new anymore.

You can find the 9500pro new, it's now called a 128bit 9800 pro and Sapphire makes them. :D

There is no need for 256megs of ram on a video card these days. Only the highest end systems can take advantage, and it's only a small advantage anyway.

I concur with memories 2002. I would get a 9600pro with the 600mhz memory, or a 5900XT if you want a little more power.
