question from a foreigner: about Thanksgiving.

so, after being in the states for more than 5 years I still have yet to celebrate Thanksgiving the right way. More importantly, I want to know when is the best time to do Thanksgiving SHOPPing and Partying.... 🙂

so, this is what I think/concieve:
on Wednesday night: People start packing and travel to their parents' home or where ever they have their Thanksgiving dinner.
on Thursday: families sit, chat, talk, play games under one roof until dinner is served. Then every relax and watch football and stuff.
on Friday: Holiday shopping begins.
on Saturday: ppl go back home and return to their miserable lives.... 🙂

so, the best time to party is actually Wednesday night before ppl have nothing to do after they arrive; while the best time to shop is Thursday coz everyone is at their homes.

thanksgiving isnt thought of really as a 'party' holiday, to me anyways...

and shopping on that day will give minimul results as most if not all stores are closed (except grocery stores, and they tend to close early)

For some reason I found your post pretty funny. I think you have the idea of Thanksgiving down pretty well. I've never really understood though why the night before thanksgiving is considered the biggest drinking night of the year (even more so than new years eve?!).

people usually are packed before wednesday. unless they are late.

my family is from a different country, but it works like this. we go to my aunt's house for thanksgiving. she lives 5 minutes away from me

i go there on wednesdays and just chill out. my family comes usually a couple hours before dinner. after dinner and relaxing, some leave, others stay. after that on friday, everyone is back to their normal lives, kinda depressing and it actually pisses me off. when i get my own family, i'm gonna do it RIGHT!

No, Wednesday night is the best night to go out to the clubs, which is the plan for me tomorrow. Thursday can be spent recovering from Wed. night, and watching Football all day and eating non-stop. You have to get to bed early Thurs. night if you are like the masses who are the asses, and be up and out the door at 2:30am to be the first in line at your local Walmart to save $5.00 on something you don't really need in the first place. Saturday is another party day/night, and Sunday you go home to get ready for work on Monday. 😀

Never heard that. Maybe I need to get on the ball...😛

Because most everyone has a four-day weekend, so you have 3 extra days to recover from your Wednesday night drinking binge.
