Comes with all the X2's except the 3800+m it came with my 4200+ and I'm still suprised by how well it works. I'm still using the stock thermal pad too, didn't even need to replace it with AS5.

At 1000rpm, it is almost silent, and at 2000rpm it still remains fairly quiet, but at right (2-3am) when everything was dead quiet i could here a slight whine coming from it. Anything above 2000rpm is plain annoying, it starts getting real load. If you can keep temps good with it running below 1600rpm all the time you can avoid the whine. Its pretty good for a stock HSF, but it is obviously not made to be quiet :)

btw: Idle was around 34C with CNQ enabled

I tried a 80mm to 120mm fan mod too, it didnt work because the fan setup on it seems to be rectangular, not square...That was probably done deliberatly on the OEM's part.

I tried speedfan with mine, as well as Gigabyte's smartfan app, and the stupid fan on the stock HSF (heatpipe model) would stop completely until it hit a certain temperature. It didn't seem to like low volts at all (maybe a thermal/diode controlled fan?). As for speeds, the fan would ramp up to 3800+ RPM and it sounded like a cheap leaf-blower at high temps.

My temps (4400+ at stock settings) never go above 45°C with 2 instances of prime95 running and the fan also stays well below 2000rpm which is silent. The friggin NB fan is louder on my DFI Lanparty. :(

That is like saying that the sun is hotter than your toaster. That NB fan is like a damned drill at max speed.

One note - if you have a 7800gtx the card overlaps the NB fan and causes it to do horrible things with the airflow that makes it considerably worse than it is to start with - if you are in that situation you might want to consider moving your video card to the lower slot.

the HSFU that comes with the X2 3800+ is pretty crappy, basically the same thing that came with my 3000+ winchester, but for stock cooling it was okay. TT Bigtyphoon is nice, but its a Pain in the ass to install if you've got a backplate that comes off like my epox...hope you have a really small set of wrenches, 'cause it uses these little itty bitty washers to torque the thing down. I still don't know if I've installed my right, I need the tools the get the damn thing off...

Grrr. Exactly what I don't want to hear!

How about a quiet/decent-cooling/easy-to-install HSF...for $50?
