If the state of california had a hairy sweaty armpit, it would be Sacramento.

It's worse than Fresno?
Fresno's the left nut!

Lest we forget about Bakersfield.

Op, Davis is a great town/college. There are so many things to do there and as someone previously pointed out they have a really good music scene if you like that. If you do decide to go DO NOT LIVE IN TERCERO.

Davis lacks the college-town atmosphere IMO. Seriously. This is where Berkeley and LA rule in terms of college life. If everyone drives around, it's kinda pointless.

I suppose if one really wants that atmosphere, there's always UCSB. Isla Vista is just an extension of the campus, and then there's nothing else around.

this thread needs more Gaucho love

<- UCSB alumni

Have you been back to take a look at it lately?
They're building it out to the max.
Makes me ill. Photo

UCD undergrad from 99-04, liked it so much i stayed an extra year. Couldn't leave after that, worked on campus for two years, then decided to go to law school. Guess where? UCD School of Law, King Hall. I'm a first year law student now, and thank my lucky stars I didn't end up somewhere else.

If you like the small city, college town atmoshphere, UCD is a great place. It's laid back and people are very friendly (even in law school!).

If you're more of the SF/LA type, Davis is NOT the place for you. You will hate it.

Well, at this point Davis is more or less tied with Irvine in my list of choices.

My current preference ranking is:

1. Berkeley
2. LA
3. SD
4. Davis/Irvine
5. Santa Barbara/Santa Cruz

Well the more important question, then, is where did you get in? Also, what will your major be?

Transfers don't get decisions until April. I'm majoring in Econ, and the colleges are essentially ranked by department prestige (although that wasn't the sole criterion).

Update: I'm in at Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara so far. Decisions are still pending at Berkeley, LA, SD, Davis, and Irvine.

Tercero now has the best dining common for all dorms, i think. You really should consider living there if you don't mind the afternoon cow smell 🙂

by the way, I'm UCD alum 2000 - 2006. It's really one of the best towns I've ever been in. Everyone is friendly ( not as much now as back in 2000), and laid back.

As for academic, we have a very good computer science program, especially in Security, networking, and graphics. If you are in computer science, I can recommend some must take courses.

I'm from Sacramento (so I know Davis) and I'm a current student at UCSC.

COME TO SANTA CRUZ. The school is amazing- I love all my classes (I'm a history/politics guy, but my science/engineering friends say the same), and the people are fantastic. Seriously- Davis is full of boring, high school-caliber boring frat people. Also, Davis is really, really lame. There's always something going on in SC- concerts, events, whatever. Far more laid back, the people are infinitely cooler, etc., ad nauseum. Also, there's actually some politically active people here, which is far more than you can say for 99.6% of the rest of the country (especially including Davis).

edit: if you have any specific questions, id be happy to answer them.
oh, and don't go by the tour here- it's the most idiotic thing ever. After I visited, Santa Cruz was my last choice, but after a year and half here, I am SO, so glad I ended up (read: was rejected from everywhere) here. It's pretty much a perfect fit.

I think the best thing about this place is the atmosphere. It's exactly as intense as you want it to be. I'm taking some pretty hard classes, so I'm busy all the time with work, but I love all of it. I definitely know some people who just skate by, but they'll never know what they're missing. The point is that there's very little competitiveness around here, which is pretty much the best thing in the world.
Also, the only frats are the ethnic ones, the Jew one, and the gay one, and they're all off-campus, so they don't really exist. There are very few (you can find them if you want them, but they're definitely the minority) huge, kegger-type crazy-ass parties that go on- much more of the laid-back, you'll-know-everyone-there type of things. far superior party scene, IMO. also, no one pays any attention to sports (we don't have a football team, for example- but we've got pretty decent teams of most everything else, so i hear), which is awesome.
...and ok, that's enough procrastinating and not writing my paper. good luck, and come to Santa Cruz.

No, segundo has the best dining commons now. I was in cuarto though, we had a blast. Our dorms had small living rooms and private bathrooms.

You do realize that not everyone that posts on AT is a CS major, right? :Q I'm actually going to be majoring in Economics.

Pot vs cows
I think the decision is pretty clear 🙂

I have to say, I didn't go to either, but I was accepted to UCSC.
