In other words, you spend more time at the golf course than actually eating lunch.

don't you mean he spends more time at those bars with the $20 dances?

If I was hourlyI'd be working 7:30 - 5:30 and not breaking for lunch.
Which is exactly what I did when I was hourly. That extra 2 hours a day really adds up.

I can get away with longer lunches but if I take shorter ones I'm still stuck here until 5 p.m.

Best hours I had were 7:00 - 3:30. I didn't have an unnecessarily long lunch time and had a lot of the afternoon left to enjoy. Too bad I detested the job itself.

Nope, straight 9-5, no unpaid lunch :D

But then again, I bring my lunch to work, so I usually take like 15 minutes to eat and chill...

8-5 M-Th, one hour lunch. 8-1 Friday, no lunch. Salaried, and I'm rarely there before 9am anyway :)

Your work hours vs break / lunch hours can be modified by State Law.
Which of the 50 states are you in?

California.

Hmm so it seems like everyone does the standard 8 hour work + 1 hour lunch (and any overtime). What's all this talk about 9-5 though? :)

boss jsut changed up his rules so used to be 9-5 /w 1 hour lunch included...now its either 7-4, 8-5 or 9-6 with 1 hour lunch not included but two 15 minute breaks are :-/ not too bad but just makes for an even longer day soemtimes

oh and by law you MUST take a 1 hour lunch AND the two 15 minute breaks if at all possible NOT at your desk...at least thats how it is in AZ...i got in trouble working at city courthouse and not following those rules (since company can be sued for making you work too much)

My workplace is flextime, but the range of hours I can work is limited. About the earliest I can get here is 7, and the latest I can really leave is 5:30, since they lock the doors then and I don't have a keycard to let me out.

If we take lunch it's on our own time. With my previous stints here I could work through lunch but my current supervisor tells me our division is required to take an hour lunch. Minimum.

The 9-5 shift was from a time long ago. I think some places only gave people the half-hour break and required them to clock in at 9 and leave at 5, unless they were working overtime which usually has to be approved. Dunno what federal law says about requiring people to do that nowadays.

I'm 8-5, 1 hour unpaid lunch. The best I've ever had in regards to lunch hour was when I worked the worst hours I've ever worked -- 6am-2:30pm, one hour lunch with 30 minutes paid, heh.

It wasn't worth it.

Salaried here.
I generally work 8:30 - 5:30.
But sometimes I stay till midnight and sometimes I come in at 9 and take off around 3.

The general expectation here is that salaried people work 45 hours a week. But that pretty much includes lunch. So I guess the norm for salaried would be 8-5 with a one hour lunch.
