Question for those who are rude/get mad at telemarketers

Everyone says, "they're just doing their job, be nice to them". I say, since they ARE doing their job and they ARE getting a paycheck, treat them how you want. You want to be nice, be nice. Want to be rude, be rude. Hang up if you want. Who cares? They get a paycheck, that's what matters to them. If they want to be treated better, they can find another job. They annoy me at home, a place where I should be able to be left alone! I normally don't even answer Unavailable CID calls because I get about 10 or so a day, some days I get much more. I very recently used to work as retail manager. Some people treated me like crap. It didn't bother me. Being treated rudely for no reason (and sometimes for a reason) is part of most jobs in retail. Some customers are just rude. I almost liked some of them; I had fun "pushing their buttons" sometimes. It didn't matter to me, what mattered was that my employer paid me well. I worked there for the paycheck, not to be treated nicely. If I didn't like it I would have gotten another job. That is how life works. BTW, just for the record: Most people ARE nice, it's just that there are some rude ones who ruin it for the rest of us.

About a year ago I found this and signed up. I haven't receive a call since.

Kinda sucks that some states have to pay for something that shouldn't even be needed. But I guess someone always needs their cut of the action. Lucky for me it was free in my state! Whee!

If you can't get this then call ID is the best thing to have. They always come up as "Out of area" "Out of Area" for me. I know to just pickup and hang up or to let the answering machine get it. At first I was nice, then I toyed with them, then I just got plain rude. After a while I just gave up. But if you can I recommend signing up for that do not call list worked for me, my parents, my in-laws! It's so nice not having to worry about answering the phone.

heh its hard not to be rude to the ones that ramble on not letting u interrupt from their script... as if u'd magically change your mind if you were force fed their offer😛

what's your name
don't call back
if you call back, i'll sue you!

that usually gets me off the phone.
of course, i say it in most nicest way possible.

I was a telemarketer for a three full days (had to get summer job, *fast*) and that was enough, jesus christ that job stinks so much it cannot be described. Thank god I got to call IT companies only, most of them were polite...

Exactly. I'm working as a telemarketer right now. Besides the ten of us with a temp agency, everyone else is on a welfare-to-work program, and some never completed high school, so it's suffice to say your average telemarketer isn't too bright. It's an easy job, and I get paid $8.50 an hour when most manual labor jobs are paying $6.25 if you're lucky to even get a job. I can work as many hours as I want between 20-40, and the paychecks for 3 days work is ~$180. I can't complain, fscking easy. But it's disappointing, as a sale is an extremely rare occurrence. So what do I do? I bring a book to read every day. I'll let the phones ring off the hook for 5-10 minutes and read, and not do very much real work.

I enjoy when people argue or try and fight me, because I can have some fun then (I ignore the script) as it's quite easy to tell when you're being monitored (there's an insanely obvious echo).

Its just a person doing their job to make a living....

Exactly. It is just some person making minimum wage at a crappy job. It is the company you should get mad at.
