What sorts of characteristics would a website need to have in order to pass the MSN and Yahoo! review boards? Also, how much do web designers charge for that sort of thing?

Someone is willing to pay me $15/hr to get a site done by next Monday... but I don't know if I should ask for more $$$. I have done some nice websites but I've never done them for $$$.

Thanks for all your advice.

Tee hee... what is a fair price then? I would be doing extensive photoshop/graphics editing and layout.

Also, I need to know what a site needs to pass MSN/Yahoo! review or whatever the h3ll they are.

Extensive Photoshop editing and done by Monday??

I'd say $75-100/hour.

How many pages? Just static HTML? Any DB work? How many hours do you estimate?

Yeah, definitely more than $15/hr for you. Sounds like you'll get the job done very well, so you should charge a much higher fee. Photoshopping should add a lot to the cost, as it's not required/expected by every web designer. I don't think you should worry about reviewers, you seem to know what you're doing. Get the job done, make it a real nice page, don't forget anything, and that's it.

$75-100/hr is pretty high unless you're a pro.

$30-60/hr is closer depending on how good you are.

DAAAAAAYAM!

That's TOP dollar for ANY web "designer", let alone a programmer. If this is his first gig, that's waaay too high.

I'd say $25/hr, and if they say no, do it for $15 to get the experience. I know programmers who do work for $40/hr.

$75/hour is high but I didn't mention that I would be assuming that it would be a complicated site. If it involves ASP, database work, Photoshop, e-commerce...any of that, $75/hour would be a steal.

It also depends on how big the company you are doing the work for is. If it is a huge corporation, a website that costs $20,000+ is nothing, but if it is a mom and pop store, try to keep the final price around a couple grand.

I've designed a few pages, and I started out at $20/hour, and have moved up the ladder to $30/hour.

Also, I've done a few sites for charity, so they paid whatever they could afford. :)

I'd need to design a graphics set - its a corporate information site. HTML and Javascript and maybe some flash. I'm guessing 20 -30 files total.

No ASP or database needed for this one.

Thanks for all the responses.!!! :)

Any final suggestions? I checked out some websites that offer designing services... most of them charge $250 or so just for a main page and then $100 for each additional page. Some of them also charged $25-$75/hr for graphics design! Holy sh!t I was thinking. <BR><BR>A 20 - 30 page site would cost these guys at least $3,000 just to get started... :p  No wonder they're trying to lowball me at $15/hr. They said they liked my work and want me to do it... ($15 * 40 hrs = $600). I heard they paid another guy 15K to do a new site but it took him a *month* to finish.<BR><BR>does $30/hr sound fair? <BR><BR>Again, I would be making a graphics set, laying out the HTML, and programming some simple javascript. <BR><BR>- Wilson

I'm thinking $30/hour is fair... what do u guys think? (They'd pay me 40 * 30 or $1200).

i'd say $15 is too low. i got paid $15 to work for a non-profit organization and all i did was simple html text edits.

I'd say $30-$40 an hour is fair for both of you. Don't settle for less than $20. Tell them to fvck off!

I only started designing as a hobby this summer but if it pays well, shoot i'll pick it up as a part-time job.
