Question For The Guys

I've asked this question on Pet forums, but admittedly mostly women talk on them, so I didn't get an answer. Since there's mostly men here thought I might actually get an answer.

These thoughts/ or wonderings as you will, coincide with my thoughts of adding in another large breed dog to my family ( I currently have two ), and I'd like some honest opinions and insights from folks on this subject.
Okay, I am a rather petite woman, and obviously I have rather large dogs. I always have so this is nothing new to me. I recall when my Lab mix was still growing, there were these guys who were cutting down trees in my neighborhood. Well at one point I took her out for a walk, and the guys pretty much all gathered around to watch us. A couple of the guys, one in particular, couldn't help commenting on the size she was and was yet still growing. And of course adding in how small I was. The guys pretty well thought it was "cute" and I guess impressive at the same time.
Here are my questions though: 1) Okay I don't mind hearing that it's "cute" but I have heard that some guys look at it as ( well for single women anyways ) maybe the girl has insecurities. Okay so why is that? Can we not simply love large dogs?
And also why is it so fascinating to begin with?
I've dealt with the looks and the smiles, and the jokes. But have never been given a real good explanation for them.

Any thoughts?

check out alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.bestiality. Then you will understand. Your dog will want to see this too.

A friend of a friend's mastiff slipped one past the goalie while she was doing the dishes.

 for you... I generally can't stand women that have little annoying dogs... seems so cliched...

When I see a woman with a larger dog, I generally view them as being more outdoor orientated, and maybe a little more independent than most... I wouldn't worry about it..

Little dogs = trendy, yapping annoying things...just like their owners

big dogs = fun loving, wanna go outside and rough around and be playful...just like their owners

big dogs for the win!

I'm a guy (obviously, this is AT after all) and don't see the appeal of large dogs, but then I'm in an urban/suburban area where large dogs would make too much of a mess and wouldn't have enough land (on the average lot) to be happy, so that may factor into it.

Edit in response to vi_edit's post:
I own a small dog and am not trendy. Not all small dogs are annoying big barkers, it's mainly the terrier family of breeds which gives them all a bad name.

Hah, um..no. We have a toy poodle that chases deer. Also got into a fight with a coyote (thank the lord for our other dog being there..even though she isn't that big).

That other dog, which is probably only 4 times the height of the toy poodle, got in a fight with a wolf..dog..half and half..and won, although she lost her tail. Stereotypes are bad, even for dogs :p

Its not so much reading into it, as it is curious as to what the fascination is. I've heard different theories from women on the subject but not many from men on the subject.
One theory I've heard "Maybe guys feel threatened that we dont need a big guy to walk our big dog. "
And possible insecurity issues on the guys part. Trust me women have discussed this, so I'm not the only one that's curious.

I would think that you just like big dogs, and would probably think it's cute. Big dogs are very cool (I have a small dog myself, and they're cool too if they're not annoying). I wouldn't even think to consider "insecurity" issues.

I'm more of an outdoors kind of girl than a mall bound kind, and I definitely consider myself independent.

I love Great Danes. They're too heart breaking for me though. Too prone to health problems, and their life span's so much shorter.
I have a Lab mix, a GSD, and soon Beauce. I'm kind of moving away from GSD's, I love the breed but there's too much politics, and bad breeding.

No biggie...

My fiance (she's 5' 2") has a Great Pyrinese (sp?) and a very big Samoyid. One is 100 pounds and the other is 140. They tolerate me but they aren't big fans of my Corgi. In fact, the only reason he's still alive is that he's much quicker than they are.

Petite women + big dogs = teh win

Larger dogs are better than most of the little yapping ones. Not to mention little dogs get eaten around here rather quickly.
big dog > little dog

Personally, I think large dogs are much cooler than small dogs. Small dogs I often find annoying. In fact, I would rather have a cat than a small dog.. at least cats are clean.

But big dogs are fun.. at least that is my impression (I've never had a big dog personally).

Maybe between your good looks and your dogs the guys are just getting into a little playful?

Just a theory.

I grew up with a GSD, and my, then, next door neighbors GSD. I've always been around big dogs, and seriously view them as being more fun then the small, but that's me.

I had my uncles two maltese at my house a while back. Those two yappy/snappy little sh!ts tried their best to bully my two dogs around. Both of my dogs were like, "What the h-e-ll?!!"

Nevertheless, I was very happy to see them go home after spending a couple days with them, and became very appreciative my bigger dogs.
