Question for the experts

The following is my system, and I want to add another 160GB HDD. Is this possible since I am using the Maxtor ATA133 PCI card with only the Primary drive (60GB WD ATA100 7200RPM) and my original 160GB Maxtor on the primary IDE channel of the card? Possibly adding it to the secondary IDE on the ATA133 card? What are your suggestions on this

AMD Athlon XP1900+
ABIT KG7
256 OCZ PC3000
SK6 Extreme HS&F

ATA133 PCI card, primary IDE, nothing on the secondary:
60GB WD
160GB Maxtor

Secondary IDE slot on the Mobo:
32X TDK Velo-CD CDRW
16X Pioneer Slot DVD

Visiontek GF3
TB Santa Cruz
Logitech Z560's
17" Samsung SyncMaster 760Vtft
Addtronics 7896A
500w PS

Or is my only other option, getting a raid mobo which supports the ATA133 natively and completely do away with the PCI card.

Thanks so much for your insight and recommendations

In the past, I had run the same way you are now, with the addition of a second drive on the secondary channel of the card/ this was with a ata 100 promise card tho/ hope this helps.

Well, when I didn't have my two 80GB Seagates, I had each 60GB hooked up as the Master drive on both the Primary and Secondary controller ports on my Promise ATA133 card. This supposedly keeps the transfer rates to the maximum performance levels. I would put each drive on it's own chain, if possible. I'm not clear on what you're asking, but I hope this helps.

Good luck!

I did it the way I did, to free Irq's up, I believe it will work fine for you, it did for me. Your very welcome on the reply 😉
