Well he's somewhat right since they don't allow calculators on any exams. That said, I did fine with a Ti-83+. All you really need is a calc that displays the order of operations.

Well he's somewhat right since they don't allow calculators on any exams. That said, I did fine with a Ti-83+. All you really need is a calc that displays the order of operations.

Although it obviously depends on your school, if you are going to be studying engineering you are going to need more then a 4 function calculator. You might be unable to use it for math classes and some engineering classes, but a symbolic calculator is useful for checking work, graphing complex functions, and solving equations with many unknowns quickly.

as i said earlier, I only ever used my graphing for solving multiple equations. you don't need a complex calculator for engineering. especially when you're dealing with variables... 75% of my teachers told us that it doesn't matter if you got the final answer correct, as long as you had the final equation correct. if the equation is right, you'd get 9 out of 10 points.

everything i ever did was either too easy for a graphing calculator, or too hard for a graphing calculator (that's what matlab is for).
