I got a rental car.. 2001 Altima GXE and the emblem on the front fender says "Limited Edition" Altima

what is special about this? if anything?

It's probably a dealer added accessory package, say with things like tinted windows, cushy floormats, etc, etc...
 
Nothing special really.

I think it adds fake wood trim and a CD player to the base package. It's really just a badge on the side of the car that is nothing more than marketing hype.

My friends have an '01 Altima "LE" and it really is nothing to brag about. It's simply a good car with decent options, at a nice price.
 
All normal options PLUS

power driver's seat, remote keyless entry with vehicle security system, floor mats, and special LE badging
