Question for smokers...

There is this guy at work that I ride with who normally will go through a pack of cigs by the end of the day. However, sometimes, he won't smoke at all during the day. It's not that he doesn't have any because they are still in the truck, he just doesn't smoke them. I asked him why and he said he just didn't feel like that.

Is this normal?
 
That's pretty odd. But hey, some people have something that triggers them to make them want to smoke. Personally, I don't have an addictive personality, but I can chain smoke if I want to.

EDIT: To clarify, I'm primarily a non-smoker, but I do indulge now and then...
 
I do that. I dunno, a lot of days I'll go through a pack but if it's too hot outside or I just don't feel like it then I won't smoke as much.

I smoke alot, when having a stressful day, especially at work. When at home relaxed, I smoke very little sometimes. Stress triggers me to smoke like a fiend.

Yeah. I always have one leaving work, but sometimes I'll not smoke at all until after I get off.
 
yes, perfectly normal. I usually don't smoke when I'm alone. However if I'm out, especially if I'm having coffee/alcohol, I'll smoke more.

I was pretty much the same way when I used to smoke. It's more unusual if he is typically a pack-a-day guy. At my peak I was probably about a half-pack-a-day (10 stogs) but many days would be just one or none.
 
It actually is very normal i have been a smoker for the past 11 years since i was 14. There are days when i may smoke half a pack and other when i might smoke only two butts and be fine. It really depends on the conditions in your atmosphere. Extremely hot and cold weather and also stress that day are a factor. I am one of those smokers who refuse to smoke inside so if it is like 100 degrees out i might only have one butt that day. It all depends.
 
Not really all that abnormal. When I was a smoker there were days where I wouldn't smoke at all and othertimes I'd go through 1.5 packs in a day.

Yeah, I don't ever smoke during the day, but every once in awhile if I'm drunk enough, I'll smoke a few. I've been denying myself recently even when I'm drunk, but I used to indulge.

However, I'd say that smoking a pack one day and then nothing the next is unusual.
