Can we try that with other drinks and see if they taste better? Or would it dilute the flavor since other spirits have additional flavoring?

e.g.: Can we, say, use the same technique to clean up cheap whisky? Or what about other spirits? Tequila even?
 
It might make them more palatable, but since the purpose of cheap Vodka is to be as flavourless as possible, it would defeat the point of using other alcohols, where the flavour is what you want.
 
I tried the experiment. It failed miserably.

We bought this nasty, nasty bottle of vodka named: "SIL" Vodka. It had the kremlin in the background, yet if you read the label, it said that it had been exported from Brazil, of all places.

Anyhow, to make this short, we had a new filter for this, and we filtered it 7 times - the nasty cheap rubbing alchohol smell was niticably less, but it still lingers.

Our control Vodka was Absolute Vodka. Absolute was so smooth compared to this it was unbelievable. :thumbsdown:

Now what am I going to do with this nasty, cheap vodka?

Are you kidding? It's so goddamn harsh we were actually crying everytime we took it! Between the three of us in the span of 5 hours, we couldn't choke down 1 1/2 shots' worth of this sh!t!

ahhh my mistake. i guess the only thing we do to get over it is to just man up and do it.
