Question for PS3 Rock Band players

I have a PS3, and really want to get this wonderfully dorky game. I'm concerned about the feel and build quality of the Rock Band guitar, though, and every game store I go to with the hopes of trying out the demo has the Xbox 360 version, and usually with the GH3 Les Paul guitar hooked up.

Any opinions on the RB guitar and drums? Also, how is the PS3 online experience? Buggy/awkward? I would imagine there are tons more X360 Rock Band players.

The drum set outside of being fairly noisy when playing is stable. The pedal is the only weak point, as it can snap if you hit it too hard but if you play like you should I don't see any problems.

The guitar is pretty nice except for the strum bar. Some folks with early sets had problems with it breaking but it was fixed IIRC and they were replaced by EA/Harmonix/whoever without much problems.

You probably already know this, but on the PS3 you can't buy GH3 and use its guitar with RB.

Harmonix has a patch to make it work, but Activision is blocking it unless Harmonix pays them again to let you use the guitar you've already paid Activision for.

You also can't use RB guitars with GH3 on either the PS3 or 360, again because Activision doesn't want you to.

and I'm beginning to think that mostly only plagued the version of the controller for the 360. I haven't heard of any PS3 guitars having problems. And my buddy's 360 guitar for his 360 was crap, and his drums also have screwed up sensitivity (the pads don't flex in and out like mine on my PS3, which my PS3 rockband set has great drums and a perfect guitar).
Because yea on that note, my hardware works great and I am actually very used to the rockband guitar, it works wonders.. but I kind of struggled the first time I played a GH2 360 guitar after getting used to the Fender.

Thanks for the replies. How is the online play? Also, is it true that Rock Band DLC is more expensive for PS3 than it is for Xbox 360?

nope, if so by a few pennies.1.99/track, 5.49/3pack some recent tracks were 0.99/track

oh and there's a little tax tagged on. That might be the slight difference in costs between two platforms. But on PSN, you don't gotta buy blocks of points, you merely charge the card what you wanna buy (if its below $5.00, you have to pay minimum 5 then, and end up having some left over in the PSN wallet).

I personally think the RB guitar is pretty flimsy. I ts very much like plastic, and is very light. So like with the wammy bar, you cant really go nuts on it with out a really annoying tapping noise when it hits the body of the guitar. The GH3 guitar is just much more substantial. Now i should note that i have the 360 version (i know you were asking for PS3 users) but i would think that the guitars would be essentially the same.

I personally prefer the RB guitar to the GH one, but out of my friends i'm the only one that feels that way. It takes a bit of getting used to. Its just cooler looking though.

I think if it came out first and people got used to it before the GH ones then they'd feel differently.

exact same situation here: friends disagree, but i think the RB Fender is a better quality 'guitar' experience, and just feels awesome... versus even the new GH guitars which all have that complete 'cheap toy' feel. I like both sets of buttons.

I've not played MP yet--but I've had lots and lots of time with the SP. The wireless guitars are awesome! Seriously. I'm so glad I went with the PS3 version.

On NYE we had 15 people over and with that many people in our living room, it was a blessing to have wireless guitars around all these drunk people. Last year we played Guitar Hero and one of our friends (who actually wasnt drunk) tried to dodge under the TV as someone played and ended up snagging the guitars cord ripping the PS2 out from it's place in the entertainment center and pulled the guitar player forward AND he spilled his wine. 😛

But I digress. The quality is great over all--especially considering its $170.

The 360 wired version has the breakaway cable, so the PS2 scenario you mentioned would be unlikely to happen. And the drums and microphone are still wired anyway, no?

Anyway, the Rock Band guitar is amazing. I was an avid Guitar Hero player and I was great with the X-Plorer, but once I finally got used to the Rock Band one (it took some time), it was a far better experience.

My brother-in-law has the PS3 version, and this was his response via IM when asked how the online play was:

"What online play?"

Sooo... there you go.

I have the 360 version and my guitar ended up being defective which sucked. When it did work it took a bit of getting used to but I did like the guitar but not quite as much as the GH3. I think a wireless RB guitar with a working strumbar would be better than the GH3 guitar once you get used to it.

Everything seems to be great with my RB equipment on PS3. I actually prefer how the guitar feels/plays over any GH guitar. It's bigger/longer, and the "frets" feel more natural to press (instead of lame buttons). I never really got into GH, though, so that may be why I prefer RB guitars.

I got RB deluxe for the 360 and the guitar broke in 10 mins, new one that shipped is solid. Now i cant go back to the GH2 explorer guitar cuz it feels too small and toyish. The "fixed" RB guitars are much better than initial release and I wish it would work for the GH games because its so much responsive and quiet, unlike the explorer guitar and its clakety-clack.

I used the GH2 Explorer last weekend at a friend's house and it was amazed at how much it sucked compared to just about everyother GH guitar I've used.
