Question for Protein Powder Replacement

I usually utilize vanilla protein powder in my berry, banana, oatmeal and milk smoothie. I feel it gives it a better flavor. Does anyone make shakes without the protein powder? I feel that I do not really need it, but feels it gives the smoothie a better taste. Is there a cheaper, healthy alternative to doctor up the smoothie?
 
It'll be hard to replace it 1:1 in terms of amount of protein you get without the powder and keeping the consistency. The closest thing I utilize is Greek yogurt...the brand I buy has about 19gm of protein in a 8oz serving, but it gets a little thick utilizing all 8oz.

yogurt + granola should give you a comparable amount...however, it does add more calories than a typical 25g scoop of protein. Personally, I don't like the taste that protein powder gives to the smoothie but I throw it in there to up my daily intake.
 
Gram for gram, protein powders are about as cheap as it gets for complete protein source, especially when on sale. If you're using skim milk, switching to 2% or full fat does a lot to improve the taste (at least to me).
 
I doubt that there is a cheaper way... If you buy your protein online in bulk or on sale, you really can't compete with that. Regular online price is around $10/lb of whey protein powder, which is less than $1 per serving.
