question for ppl running raid.

recently got a 8k3a+, it has onboard raid, and I've always wanted to play with raid. so is it even worth it if i get myself say, 2 older hdds and run raid 0. someone mentioned that the performance isn't that great with older models. so anyone here have any comments?

so question is: performance wise, how much gain will i see, comparing to reg. ide set up.

I also have 2 ata133 maxtor 40 gigers I can use.

and all I was planning to do is run apps and windows from the raid set up, storage goes somewhere else.

I just got the same board, and was thinking the same thing. I see that you didn't get any replies - bump for ya.

Did you end up reaching your own conclusions?

tks for the bump. I ended up trying it with 2 maxtor 30 gigers. I don't know what i did wrong but windows kept screwing up. I tried 2k and xp, and coouldn't finish installation. 2k pro finished once and the computer crashed a few times. so I said f' it. not worth all the trouble.

Did you remember to press F6 and tell it to use the Raid driver??

Otherwise, thats why the installation crapped out..

yep, i did. had driver disk that came with the mobo.
