Maybe this isn't the right forum to post this in, but I figure it's OT, so most anything can go. Anyways, my topic was locked my a moderator. It was the "Would you rather" topic. Anyways, I was just wondering why it was locked. I'm not challenging it, I just want to know what rule I violated. If someone could link me to the rules or something similar so I know for next time, that would be great. Thanks

Mods dont like retarded threads or retards. You managed to fill both these criteria, and thus the lock.

PM a mod. They'll tell you that the topic was too explicit for the underage kiddies or something to that effect.

So, did you opt for the 2 week vacation?

Edit-Mods must be feeling generous. They usually don't give you a choice. :D

It seemed like people don't check that too much and I wanted to get an answer.

I think they were being generous in the spirit of the topic. However, I wasn't allowed to post in the topic anymore, obviously, so I didn't get to choose. My guess is I am on the wire between the two, but if I had a choice I would have chosen "humble apology" mixed with "I didn't know". Can anyone link me to some rules/TOS or something? Thanks again

I've never been given a choice but then I've only had 2 vacations since joining. I'm going to stop talking about it though for fear of witnessing the hand of mod again.

/looks over shoulder...

Think of the Mods as someone who has a big stick and basically they can hit you with it whenever they want to. If you keep quiet you will go unnoticed and won't get hit. If you jump around like an idiot yelling "Look at me! Look at me!" don't be surprised if you get hit.

Also, common sense goes a long way around here. Too bad it is in such short supply. ;)

there are unwritten rules here that you are expected to abide by despite them being unwritten

it makes things really fun for us old timers when n00bs show up and get banned

the best thing you can do is just read and reply , don't start new threads for a couple months until you get the hang of what is ok and what isn't

and you could also use some common sense, avoid threads that deal in non-normal stuff, like genetic defects or private parts, etc etc

There is a reason some of us are members of the never-been-banned club. ;)

Please don't ban me Mean Mod.

Actually, I posted some funny Simpsons "headlines" quotes in P&N and here. That got me a 2 week vacation. I also posted one too many "in before the lock" posts. That cost me a 1 week vacation. Won't make those mistakes again.

Hello, this should really be in forum issues, however, I'll do my best to help with the rules ...

The general forum rules/TOC is the long boring agreement when you first register ...

Here is the URL if you would like to read it: http://forums.anandtech.com/reg.cfm

There are also rules for some of the specific Forums, many of them have the rules in a "sticky" thread at the top.

Have a good one!
