Question for making cookies

I don't like it when the cookies we make at home turn hard after some time, how can I keep them or make them differently so they stay soft?

Here - :cookie:

I can't believe not a single person posted the new emoticon yet. 😀

But anyways, I don't really know. I could ask my gf - she makes really nice cookies.

if they are hard your over cooking them, or your ingredients are off.

also, instead of shoveling them off. let them cool down on the cookie sheet, then take them off.

omfg. we finally have a :cookie:?

I've NEVER made cookies that sat around long enough to get hard. However, I've heard that if you put them in a sealed container with a piece of bread, it softens them up again.

Same here. They are gone as soon as they are cool enough to touch.

That's probably why we rarely make cookies. 😱

My Aunt is a lunch lady.... She told me the secret was to take them out of the oven early....don't let them cool on the cookie sheet....prepare wax paper and let them cool there....the reason they get hard is because the cooking process continues after you take them from the oven.

When you store the :cookie:s, put a carrot/apple/etc. in the container and the cookies will stay soft.

This is the best advice. Bread also works well. After I bake mine I immediately put them into tupperware with bread and they stay soft for quite a long time.

Forget about the how part (although I've noticed that thing about the shortening and about taking them off the cookie sheet hot).

If you want to re-soften a crispy cookie, stick it in the microwave for 10-20 sec. Don't do it too long. Sugar gets hot fast in the microwave.

It'll be soft again (as long as you don't over-nuke) and it'll be warm/hot.

Beyond the butter/shortening and baking time of the cookies, one of the best ways to make them nice and soft is to use more sugar (I don't know why exactly, but I bake a lot of cookies myself). Granted, this might make your cookies taste sweeter than called for, but you could use your judgement and try it out. Works wonders for sugar cookies :cookie:
