Question for Lovers of Jazz Music

What is the word used to denote a musician that stands up and gives a solo?

We had a jazz band perform on campus last Tuesday, and someone asked the question. I'd like to know too, so I am asking you people!

<< "soloist" ? :Q >>

That's what I thought they were called too. 🙂

If a person gets up and gives a solo that person is a soloist.

Its soloist , however they aren't soloing, they're blowing. Blowing over the changes, which means the chord sequence set in the music. Dig?🙂

BTW, that site doesn't even scratch the surface of jazz lingo.
