1) No
2) N/A
3) About 7 years or so
4) At one point I was up to 1.5 packs per day...of course I was also drinking disgusting amounts of booze too. I was quite self-destructive. When I quit I was down to about 1 pack per week.

4 - Generally about a pack a day (sometimes more, sometime less...)

Talked to others and they've had this problem too....

And to think you cough it up for that long after you have Stopped Smoking. That's so nasty. Good enough reason for anyone to quit or at least not start. Who wants that crap in their system..

Some interesting results. There is quite a big difference between coughing up cigarette residue and not. Especially those that cough the residue up for months. Seems some heavy smokers have not coughed up any cigarette residue and some lighter smokers have. Anyone know why some cough up residue and some do not?

It could be that many just think it's phlem or related to a cold or allergies. At any rate, if you're not coughing it up, it's staying in your lungs. Not a good thing.

From here

Day 25
It's an unpleasant fact that many quitting smokers develop a nasty cough accompanied by dark phlegm. This is your body's way of getting rid of all that gunk in your lungs. In time, you'll see a reduction in this and your smoker's cough.
