What kind of shotgun was Anton Chigurh using in No Country For Old Men?

A shotgun with a silencer? Is that possible or just another Hollywood mythological creation? :laugh:
 
Well the overdubbing lead you to believe it was some top secret weapon with a crazy choke and nearly zero propellant noise!
 
Not the thing hooked to the bottle that he was holding up to locks. The other thing was definitely a shotgun type weapon.

While at the range, an assortment of rounds were fired, both standard (supersonic) and subsonic. The muzzle sound signature with subsonic ammunition was reduced to a level that was the same as that produced by a .22 short fired from a rifle. Others that were present likened the sound signature to that of a .177 caliber RWS pellet rifle. Put another way, the manual cycling of the 870?s pump action was actually louder than the sound of a subsonic 12-gaugt round being fired from the Clandestine 12.

Most of the noise from a firearm is from the projectile breaking the sound barrier. Although I have no experience with and have never seen a "sound suppressed" shotgun. I would tend to think it would be possible to reduced the sound when combined with a sub-sonic load.

I used to varmint hunt with a "sound suppressed" bolt action .22 rifle. Until the sheriff explained to me his discomfort with me having such a weapon. And he did not go for the "noise pollution reduction" spiel. When using sub-sonic .22 long rounds it made less noise than my pellet rifle. With super-sonic .22 long rifle rounds it did make a difference. But it was still rather loud.

The better "sound suppression" will "probably" be those with the sound suppression integral with the barrel and a projectile that is designed to break the sound barrier with as little air displacement as possible. Although, I have never seen such a weapon or projectile.

I do not have any idea what they had in the movie "No Country For Old Men" Being a movie it is best to remember that on TV and in the movie's it is almost impossible to shoot at a vehicle and not have it blow up. Or shoot out the tires while the vehicle is traveling at 60 mph. With a handgun and standard ammo. While everywhere except on the "lot" both are incredibly hard to do.

Not neccesarily, suppressors are completely legal for civilian use.

You just need the proper ATF forms and tax stamps to go with them. I own a few myself.
