Look at the terms of the rebate. If it says something like "New account activation required," then yes, it's for brand new customers only. It's possible that that's not the case. If it says something like "One year service agreement required," then you can probably get the rebate with you existing service, but they will force you to stay another year, or pay the early termination fee when you leave.

Its pretty easy to switch phones with Sprint. If they try to charge you a fee, just tell them that this is a replacement phone because oyu were having problems with your other phone. Also so you don't have to wait in line, call 1-877-909-4806. That is the phone number for the "red phone" that are in Sprint stores. You will not have to wait and the people who answer on the other end are usually very good. You should have no problems.
