Question for artists and those who like art

I'm setting up a virtual art exhibit in my apartment.

I'm going to show art work of famous and not so famous artists on my HDTV. My laptop has an HDTV input which will allow me to hook up my computer to my HDTV with just one cable. But first I have to save hundreds of images of paintings, sculptures to Windows My Pictures.

I'd like to ask art friendly people out there the following: what is the web address of your favorite online virtual art gallery that has LARGE, high resolution images (large images) of art work?

Thanks in advance for helping me set up this home project.

Ack! I thought it had something to do with the Met in NYC, so I went directly to it. Time to clear those cookies out of the old work browser...

You should know better then to ever look at something talked about here or you may be looking at prolapsed rectums in the near future.

DeviantART, as it's the largest online art community there is. You'll be able to find tons there.

Just be careful if searching at work... that site has a ton of 4chan like stuff there also.

I'd say go with DeviantArt. You can get a little bit of everything on that site. If you want, you could also check out some of the portfolios on Carbonmade.

Domai and MET-ART is good art, great art actually... for adults. In my case, I want the art I show to be able to be viewed by people of all ages, including (in some cases, but not all) children. 🙂

Some of the links you posted look very promising. And although I took only a cursory look, the few images I viewed at darkroastedblend.com and notcot.org were not, unfortunately, full screen images. They tended to be on the small side. 🙁

That tells me that if I ran an image like that from my computer over to my 47" HDTV via an HDMI cable, that
image will still be on the small side, no? 😕

What I'm thinking is that I'd like the art image of a painting, drawing or sculpture to fill out the HDTV screen the way a TV show does...

Scott916, FetusCakeMix and Xanis: Deviantart looks to be a depository of GREAT art, with large sized images the size of a monitor. Thanks for recommending Deviantart 🙂

as for the size, well thats just how it is i guess, internets isn't that advanced yet.

think there used to be subscription services for rotating desktop wallpapers/screensavers or something, they had them by categories.

Carbonmade is a great addition, a good site that I've bookmarked. I took a look and I see that they have a lot of art that I'll save to my harddrive. The thing is though: over on the far right side of their page you'll see an index. I see no listing for "Paintings". How come? Or are paintings under a different subject category unbeknownst to me?

I don't understand the point of just putting art on your TV. Art I think is to be used in conjunction with interior design. Just showing art for the sake of showing is not interesting. I say this and I'm a big art fan - real art, not crap you find on the net. I go to Sothebys.com and Christies.com and look around a lot.

I look at art on my 19 inch computer monitor, as do others. So why wouldn't I want to see it on a 47 inch HDTV? It's not hard. All it takes is one little HDMI cable you run from the computer to the HDTV. And then close the blackout curtains and turn out the lights.

I have guests, and I like to host and entertain those guests. In much the same way a person would host a "Movie Night" by having some friends over to watch a quality Blu-ray movie.

I'm not flaming, but I think you're going to get made fun of if you do that.

Okay, I respect that. But I'm curious, why would someone make fun of me for showing images of art on my 47 inch HDTV? Maybe you mean an art snob would make fun of me. Someone like Robin Leach, maybe? Or someone who drives a Ferrarri to work and back during the week and flys to Aspen or Paris on weekends?

Then there are the GREAT images out there. Just like the ones you see at Flickr's Explore. Everyone looks at great images on their computer monitor. And nowadays people view those same images on their HDTV. Sort of like what I call a little "guerilla" photo exhibit/ when you're all just sitting around relaxing looking at images. What's the difference if you're using your HDTV to look at images like you see on Explore of if you're looking at paintings or sculputured art? I don't see the difference 😕

But correct me if I'm wrong 🙂

No actually the opposite. It will appear to some that you're trying to be some urban artista-snob by doing the somewhat corney thing of posting art on your TV. Won't your party goers want to see a basketball game instead or something?

What's corny about looking at great images like you see on Flickr's Explore or great art on an HDTV? You do realize that photography is considered art. BTW, you should also realize that women like looking at art, no matter how it's shown. One of my FWB's can attest to that.

I conceived the guerilla art exhibit to be shown on my HDTV for two reasons:

1) For when I'm alone and I want to zone out and look at hundreds if not thousands of art works on my HDTV

2) When I have a hot woman over to my place who's unaccompanied or who's in accompaniment with a female friend. I live right around the corner from San Diego's version of Bourbon Street. My life is great. I'm a womanizer. I like women. And they like me. (I won't go into detail, no time for that right now.) And I'm always thinking of ways of making it that much better. (Ben and Jerry's ice cream, anyone???) Suffice to say that I like hot looking women - women who would be rated anywhere between a 7 and a 10 on HOTorNOT.com - who have tattoos. Lots and lots of tattoos. And women with tattoos like art. And so do I.

I live in this neighborhood, right around the corner from the streets shown here:

Good night

You are freaking weird, and sound like some perv. I have no idea how any of that has anything to do with showing art on TV.

What do you have against heterosexuals? We're here. We're there. We're everywhere. Deal with it. Or are you a Richard Simmons die-hard groupie who considers Ben and Jerry's ice cream poison? You should ease up on the healthy eating. You can always have a bowl of Ben and Jerry's on cheat day (my favorite flavor is Cherry Garcia, try it - you'll like it!). And speaking of obsessions... I don't care about your obsession with everything gay. Some of my friends are gay. Just don't lash out at us breeders

Paintings would fall into the "Fine Art" category.
