question for anyone with a Lian Li PC-V1000B case

For anyone who owns this case, I was just wondering what the depth is for the psu chamber? I heard that newer, larger psu's will not fit (at least not comfortably). Can someone give a definite answer to how much room I will have to play with if I do decide to purchase this case.

Using basic math... and this picture from Lian Li's website, I came to the conclusion that it's about 5 1/2". But if anyone can give me a definite answer, that would be great!

Thanks in advance.

larger PSU's WILL fit. u can remove the PSU divider for a bit more room, if u STILL need more room u can remove the first hard drive cage if u have less than 4 hard drives.

thanks dude! how are you liking the V1000B? if you had to buy a case right now... would you buy another V1000B or a P182 or insert your own case

I'm using the v1100, which internally is the exact same. If I were to buy a new case right now, it would still definitely be the lian li. The quality is unbeatable.

I have one laying around. I used it for quite awhile and I pretty much dislike it. It has a lot of venting for decent airflow, however that makes it loud as all the sound is pretty much allowed to escape in every which direction. I wasn't too wild about the inverted motherboard design as well, it can give some motherboard with northbridge to southbridge heat-pipes trouble. For all of my dislikes about it... its a damn good looking case. To answer the original question, yes a larger PSU will fit.

Are you dead-set on getting that Lian-Li? IMO you could do better for cheaper probably.

DEFINITELY ANOTHER LIAN LI
i'm eyeing the A70 right now as my next case upgrade.

wrong. i have done lots of research on this prior to buying a MB with heatpipes. i've seen the a8n32-ali inverted with no problems and my CURRENT DS3P with heatpiptes in it with no problems.

better in terms of... quality? doubt it.

Another problem you might run into with that series is the mounting of some of the larger CPU heatsinks. I had a 1200 plus II and could only mount the two I tried (a Thermaltake 120 ultra extreme and an Aerotherm Nirvana) facing down due to the CPU being at the bottom and interference with the wall of the PSU/Hard drive compartment. Great case/workmanship, though.

i can imagine that might be a problem with very wide heatsinks, but as u can tell from the pic, the tuniq tower mounts fine with the DS3P motherboard

I still wouldn't recommend the v1000b. Reguardless of what the case claims, first hand I'll say that IMO from over 1 year of use, it's a flawed thermal design out of the box. Make your own adjustments and it will be fine (and loud). But if you listen to the masses who like to spend their cashes (I made a ryhme!), I'll sell you mine for a song and a dance. It's collecting dust as one of my least favorite cases of all time.

I don't have my heart set on any case just yet. Although I've narrowed it between either the Lian Li V1000B or the Antec P182. Two very different approaches to case designs. I know I'm going to get pros and cons for both... but as of now... those are my top two choices.

Noise is going to be a big concern for me - but I do plan to water cool the rig... so don't know if that will alleviate the noise problem. So far, here's what I have and what I need:

HAVE
- Q9450
- 8GB (4x2GB) g.skill DDR2-800 (4-4-4-12)
- Thermaltake W0131RU 850W
- EVGA 9800 GX2
- Adaptec 2252400-R 8-lane SAS/SATA controller
- 2x76GB 10k 2.5 SAS drives (raid 0)
- 4x250GB 7200 2.5 SATA drives (raid 5)
- Zalman CNPS 9700 NT (got for free... but might water cool)

NEED
- Motherboard: looking into getting a 780i motherboard. Not too sure which one just yet.
- Water Cooling: haven't really decided what to get just yet... just know that I would want to.
- Case: the whole reason this thread got started.

What do you guys think so far - and any recommendations on the motherboard and water cooling stuff?

Thanks!

I think he might be going with a 182, I gave him a hell of a price on the v1000 of mine and he showed a lot of interest, but he hasn't gotten back to me in 4 days now.

Of course I hate the v1000 so I can't blame him 🙂

I strongly suggest you go with the p182, i had one but for testing purposes only (just for the fun of it), and i completely trust it's airflow performance and overall building quality. It might not be the the biggest but when they built it, they sure put a lot of mindwork in it.

look what I found:

V1000Z

V1010

motherboard layout is standard and not up-side-down!

sorry i haven't gotten back to you plaidfad. still haven't decided on a case yet. but this new v1000z is looking mighty attractive!

Man don't worry about the thing we were working on with the v1000, you have to do whats best for you and I know and respect that. I'm only here to help! If I really want to sell my v1000, I know I could do it in the FSFT forums. I was just offering you something I thought you might want....

Now on to the matter at hand

I'd narrow it down to the v1010 vs the p182. The v1000z might cool better, and may have a little more room to work with watercooling, but the p182 would definately be more quiet. As far as the v1010, if properly implemented by you, it might beat both the v1000z and the p182 in both categories. (Replace the mesh 5 1/2 bay covers with solid ones)

I think I'm liking the v1010 actually. Alas, can't beat the rocketfish built by Lian-Li for 47 dollars (if you can find it)

found it... case problem solved 🙂

although... i have to admit, i'm liking the v1000z and v1010 better. but can't beat the rocketfish for $49!

I think you're going to be happy with the rocketfish choice. You just save a lot of money, and this case has SO much potential especially if you want to water cool. 3x120mm rads can easily fit up top, and there are so many other options. Just use your imagination. Not to mention with the money you saved, you can put that much more into the water setup 🙂

That's why I got a second rocketfish

LOL... so my fiancee and I were over at her sister's place yesterday, and her brother-in-law's computer sounds like a "jet engine" (her exact words). So I was like "honey... if I water cool my new computer, it would definitely be quieter." She was like really??? So now... I don't have explain myself when the parts arrive (but I better hope that is is quieter than his!). 🙂

I saw what you did with your case... did you drill those 120mm holes on top of the case yourself?

PMed you, I didn't cut 120mm holes, I basically cut out a large rectangle (with snips) just slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the radiator and then used the rad grill to mount it.

Rocketfish only costs 49$??? AAAAh c'mon that ain't fair!! With the money i have for a new case i'd buy 5 of those!! I'm stuck with buying the P182 because i simply don't trust the Antec 1200. If you have any other suggestions with modding potential please tell me!

Off-topic: plaid, the case will be ready by tomorrow evening.

I have the v1100 and I would never buy another brand other than lian-li. The fit, finish and silence is priceless.
