Work is sometimes necessary if you know... you want anything to happen. Things have to be done, and some people just feel they have a calling to do something, something they feel is great and needed. And financial motivations play an important role in this process too.

Why do you HAVE TO do something? That's what I don't understand.

because that's pretty much the only way to make money. you generally need money to live...

That's not true at all.

Why do you have to live? Why do you want to live? What makes you feel that you must live?

now you're just being retarded...

if i were your parent, i'd send you away to ethiopia or somewhere for about a year... with nothing. then we'll have this conversation again when you come back.

I would probably be dead.. So no, we wouldn't have this conversation again.

What would sending me to ethiopia prove?

Isn't there anything you find really interesting, OP? Everyone has an urge to learn something - it's just that some people don't find it. I really love learning languages, and I'm decent at it. So I'm thinking of being some sort of translator/interpreter when I'm older. Just take things one step at a time: you don't have to decide on a career with certainty, just gravitate towards what you like to do.

And stop acting like a whiny little bitch. You need to focus your mind on something - I always find I'm much happier and more sure of myself when I have something to think about.

Engineer here, ~40hrs per week. And it doesn't seem too much like "work" either, amazingly enough. Today, we got out of work a bit early as a bit of a gift from the company president - I was slightly disappointed, as I was busy working on a special project.

The alternatives: Watch Dirty Jobs for awhile. Some of those jobs are unskilled labor, others are skilled. Some pay poorly, some pay well, some require you to work at a breakneck speed, some have you do assembly-line work.

I don't like working but do it cus I have this recurring urge to eat daily and have a roof over my head. Weird I know but for some reason I need to have those things every day. Maybe I should get help?

I don't want my kids to ever be deprived of anything that they need. I want to be a proper role model and not leave it to an athlete. No one else has volunteered to pay for my wife's SUV, lattes, cell phone, or car insurance. I want to hit my mid-life crisis in style.

My job is a lot easier and shit-ton more fun than going to school. I actually enjoy talking to people and trying to resolve problems, and if the orther party starts freaking out, it's a bonus.
During easy weeks I work 9-5 (at the most) and take as long a lunch as I want. When I need to prepare, I may work late and on weekends (very rare). Most people in the office work between 35-40 hours.
I am home every evening so I can play with my kids, read to them at bedtime, tuck them in, and still have time to go to the gym at least a few times a week.

Alright.. So what drives you to be an engineer/doctor/lawyer or anything at all? Why do you want to work tons of hours and do tons of work? Do you enjoy your job that much? Do you enjoy doing math problems, writing huge papers, or all of this stuff?

What drives you to do all this stuff?

I've never understood it. I just want to win the lottery and go out and have fun all the time.

It helps if you tell me what you do too, btw.

what drives you to make stupid threads like this all the time? Why do you want to waste your time? do you enjoy it that much? do you enjoy pissing everyone off?

You lack perspective and it's evident by your posts. You need to take a trip and see how life is like for the majority of people in this world. You'll come to appreciate your life much more once you realize that food, shelter, and water is a luxury for many people.

You clearly have some desire to accomplish something - it's reflected in your overall dissatisfaction.

People are driven because they don't want other people calling them losers.

I don't care what other people call me. I just want to have a place to live and eat on a daily basis.

Technically you don't HAVE to do anything... but go ahead and have fun living under the bridge with your shopping cart.
