Right now, I was looking at a few different stocks (CSCO, GOOG, SUNW - a bunch more, too many to name). I noticed the bid is 0.01 and ask is 999 (or more). What's the deal with that? Why would someone do that/How does that happen? To freeze any after hours trading? Know of any links I can go to to read/understand more? Thanks.

Market makers do that when they close the books for the night.

So it's to stop trading so they can reconcile their numbers? But I don't see it happening all the time and with all stocks
