Well, I went with AS5 instead. The little lever to tighten everything down ios very poorly constructed. When tightened, it isn't at a 90* to the board, it's sort of crooked, so it actually rests on the bottom few fins of the heatsink.

Yeah, is that not 90* to the board normal? I just got this thing, and thought it wasn't really on right. Temps haven't dropped at all compared to the stock cooler, but I haven't finished the 20 hour burn in that they recommend.

What kinda temps do you people get with this heatsink? I dont plan on using it but, sorta curious.

I use the amd stock 165 copper heatpipe sink. I couldnt be happier. 😛

I have an Opteron 170 and get low 30s at idle at room temp. Mid-to-high 30s during gaming.

idling at 28C and gets up to 36C at full load (AS5 finally burned in, yay). my Silencer also decreased the CPU temps quite a bit (I think it's why my full load dropped from 39 to 36).

I wonder if I installed this thing wrong somehow. I am getting 38-39C idle, and 50C under 100% Prime95 load. Case temp is only about 23C according to the thermal probe. The temps are the same as it was with the stock, no heatpipe AMD heatsink, and it has been burning in for about two days now. Running my Venice core at 2600 MHz from the stock 1800 MHz, at 1.525 volts.

That definitely seems odd to have the same temps as the crappy stock aluminum heatsink. Since I dont own an AC freezer pro, I couldnt really help though. Make sure its seated correctly?

It doesn't really move at all... the fan is on full power... I cleaned the old thermal pad material off... I'm at a loss right now. Maybe my heatpipes are empty! 🙂

I'm idling at 33, and full load is at 47 with a 3200+ venice at 2.5ghz 1.525vcore.

I'm not sure if the AS5 has been completely burnt in. The computer is only two weeks old.

Well, I took the whole case apart so I could make my wiring a little better. It was out of the way but still really visible so I fixed it up as well as possible. So I also unlatched the heatsink again, and really made sure it was in place with extra pressure, and latched it on again. It has been burning in for a few days now, and load temps are down to about 44-45C, I haven't idled it to see how low idle goes now.

Leave the MX1 on. All the reviews I have read for Freezer showed pretty clearly that the MX1 paste, when used with this cooler ,even when compared to Artic Silver, is superior. I have nothing but good things to say about this cooler.

The problem is the ambient temperature....in my case, 1C drop in ambient will relate to 1c drop in CPU temp, the relation is basically linear with very little or no exceptions. I'll probably get myself a tube of AS5 in the near future and give it a spin, but do keep in mind tho, many times ppl reported an instant 2~3C drop from switchin from 1 high quality paste to AS5, i am doubtful that it is highly likely that it is caused by the change in set-up and ambient temperature

my 2 cents.. stock hsf at load was 47C, only 41C with this HSF and AS5. Lapping this hsf dropped it to 37 max..

I have read that the thermal paste that comes with the AC freezer 64 is top notch and AS5 will not really make a difference in the temps....
