Question for a repo man on "How would you tow this vehicle"???

I was watching that car repo show on tv last week and watched how they pulled cars out squeeling the front or rear tires then used that device that hooked on the tires, etc. and haul them away.

Just rattling off an old mdl Jeep 😉
1979 Jeep Cherokee Chief Full time 4wheel drive (Quadra-Trac)

Scenario.......
Jeep is parallel "parked" on the right side of the street parked between 2 cars, and it's wheels totally turned to the right. The cars in the front and rear of the Jeep are friends of the Jeep owner and won't move.

I want to know how they would repo and tow this vehicle away other than using a key and driving it off? I want real possibilities here, not one's like....... Get a huge fork lift and move the jeep to a flatbed truck........ Real World here 😉


edit: Jeep is Parallel "PARKED" forgot to add that word even though everyone noticed.

i woudl think they would wait until it is in a easyer place to get it. seems a risk damaging one of the vehicles how it is set up.
 
No reason to do it right then. Somebody's gotta leave sometime...
 
If there's enough room for the Jeep to pull out of the spot there's enough room to hook a winch up to it and drag it out of the spot.

yeap.

My cousin did it for a few years (uncle owned a loan place. ) i rode few times with him. he would yank it from parking lots as people shop. out of the drivway's (IF in a garage there was nothing they can do).

it was a fun but very stressful job. not something i could do myself.

I was watching a show on repo guys on some cable channel, the guy whose car they repoed chased them in another car and was shooting at them.

what was the name of that show? i remember watching it and thinking how awesome it was. i want to find it now!


 
So they would drag the jeep out of it spot away from the curb screeching its 4 wheels it's parallel parked in? Even then, you cannot tow it away front or rear because all 4 wheels are locked (full time 4wd)

Thats the only way to do it. If you cant yank it, you're not pulling hard enough.

yes i have seen them drag a car with its tires squeling if they can full confirm its the vehicle they want.

The detent ball on teh automatics can easily break or give if they go fast enough. TRy putting your car in park while moving, you'll hear it clicking. BTW they know the vehicles they are towing, why wouldn't they drag a flatbed out, winch it up and then they are gone

yeap. it has to be on a bed. you can have the any wheels on the ground. it will ****** up the tranns.

yeah. my cousin told me story's of guys chaseing them with tire irons etc. wich is why i did not do it besides helping when they were short of guys.

it is kinda fun though. just not mystyle of job.
 
That one episode on the repo show (what's the name of the show?), where the guy was getting back the Semi truck........ or even the Little cessna plane? The people that do this job must have balls of steel. Too many idiots out there you can whack over the head with a 4x4 chunk of wood and afterwards get up saying........: Now why'd you go and done that?, it's not nice to hurt bubba.............. BUBBA MAD! :evil:

Yep. Then if you're driving a rollback, you just winch it up on the bed and go.

If not, you have to put the dollies under the set of wheel not on the ground, or jump under the Jeep and yank a driveshaft.
 
How about placing wheel dollies under the vehicle and then just winching it onto the flatbed?
I just noticed it was mentioned.
 
so easy to take it. Just jack it up by the diffs and put dollies underneath each wheel. by then you can push it out by hand.
 
your all being silly. i have a jeep with quadra-track (np 249). you don't need a key to shift the transfer case into neutral, just grab the lever and pull.. the yokes on wheel lift tow trucks swivel for just these kinds of situations.

 
Fork lift through the sides and throw it up on a flatbed semi? Its a 79, nobody's gonna care and I'd just say the holes were already there 😛
