Ask for a BIOS update from Dell, they configured the server to use SCSI (never use IDE and server in the same sentence) So what is happening, is the BIOS is not able to detect hard drives that are not connected to the SCSI controller. Besides even if you could attach the hard drive and have it work off the ide channel, chances are dell didn't spend the extra money to have an ata 100 controller on board when all the intended it for was for a CD-ROM, it is probably ATA 33 at best. I would say forget about it and go with the SCSI (depending on what you need it for, SCSI could be essential.)
