Question: criminal record and employment

Hi everyone,

I have a question. I have one misdemeanor on my record and I'm looking for a new employment. Will that hurt my chances, or even prevent me, from getting a job? I remember some of the past job applications asked if I ever have been convicted of felony, which I don't. I'm sure there are quite a few people here who have done some hiring, and what kind of background info do you look for? I live in California by the way. Thanks.

depends on the misdemeanour and the job you are going for. Probably not though, if you havent been in trouble for quite a while. If it is a drinking or driving misdemeanor -they are usually overlooked

Most applications only ask if you have been convicted of a felony. You can truthfully answer that NO and leave it at that.

haha, play it off as a good thing. 😉

"i always take full responsibility for my actions."
"i like doing all the dirty work."

but yeah, it really depends on what job you're applying for and the nature of the misdemeanor.

As with anything bad on your resume.
Don't volunteer unless specifically asked.
I personally don't consider most people who commit one misdomenor like disorderly condact or something in their life as corrupt, but you know how puritan some people are. They might just blow it out of proportion, and write you off.
