Anyone care to input their idle Memory and CPU usage?
Mine seems high but nothing to compare.
CPU is always about 12-16%
Memory is about 10%

In fact the CPU usage is on the border line to keep the mult high and adding any load and it goes to the higher mult when speedstep is enabled.

EDIT for more info: Win 7 Ult loaded, with MS security essentials, and just a few programs running at startup (will check tonight)

What OS are you using? What programs do you have in startup? Do you keep a virus scanner running? All of this would better help to say if this is normal or not.

I don't have an I7, but sitting idle right now with only Chrome and Itunes open, I've got 2-4% cpu usage and 1.72GB ram used.

This is on a Vista Business 64bit install running a 2.0Ghz Phenom X4 with 4Gb DDR2 800 ram.

I'm surprised to see cpu usage that high at idle on an I7, I don't see it on any of my other systems either.

i sit at 0-2% idle. vista 64 with nothing but steam/realtemp running on startup. ram is around 1-1.2GB used after a cold boot.

Even when i have fubar and firefox and a few other apps open it usualy stays under 10% and speedstep keeps it running at 2.4Ghz most of the time.

I am waiting for the Win 7 guys but I suspect Win 7 is some of it. I do think something is using a lot of cpu and mem though. I looked at what all was running and its a lot
svchost 10-12% CPU
cmd 5% cpu
another svchost 2% cpu
and System 1% cpu
Idle 78-81% CPU

Finally found the problemo it was something loading at startup (hale.exe). Norton did not find it so I just started looking at everything and found that to be causing excessive processor usage. It was so bad at times it was using 35% CPU but mostly 12-15%. So anyone with this issue go look at all the stuff that starts on startup in the reg in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
