I have a simple question... Maybe 2 questions...
1) How does one find the stepping on his/her processor?
2) I just recently bought an Opteron 165 and it runs at 40c idle using the 4 pipe HSF included in the retail package.
Some information:
I first installed it and looked in the bios and noticed that my processor was running at 43c on idle (strange I thought). So, I took out the HSF, took some Isopropyl and rubbed the old thermal compound from both the processor and the heatsink. I then applied my own thermal compound thinking that could've been the problem. Unfortunately, I saw no change. I even thought I may have had the heat sink on the reverse direction. So, I switched it so the lock was facing the PSU and no difference at all. I think I just may have a bad processor. I was thinking of removing the IHS, but my processor is still under warranty, so that's out of the question.
What do you guys think?
