Question concerning OCing a DURON

As per Anand's Athlon/Duron OC guide L7 on the processor is used to change the voltage. Is my understanding right in that you only need to use L7 if your motherboard does not support voltage adjustment? My reason for asking is that my DURON 750 is locked at 1.6v and in the diagram in the review the 1.75v that is recommended would require that one of the bridge be open instead of closed. What is the best way to "open" the bridges?
